Rikke Digerud-Waring was commissioned in 2008 by Barbara Blatherwick for Creative Braunstone to create artwork for the new Skills Centre which was being built in Fullhurst Avenue, Braunstone.
Additional funding was given for Rikke to involve youngsters from Braunstone in getting to know the artist who would create art for their local community. She ran workshops in Caldecote Primary School, Folville Junior School and Fullhurst Community College where she shared her ideas and skills with the pupils and challenged them to work in her favourite media: plaster and latex.
Following the workshops Rikke's ideas for the permanent installation came from interacting with the youngsters and reflecting on the new young students soon to be arriving in the Skills Centre to study vocational skills such as: painting and decorating, plumbing, car mechanics and engineering.
Rikke is a tutor at ArtyBird she graduated from De Montfort University in 2005 with an MA in Fine Art. She has exhibited in Norway, London and the Midlands and is working as an artist in residence in education and the community.
